The tour is 6 nights and 7 days, covering Gangtok (4 nights), Lachen (1 night), and Lachung (1 night), along with excursions to Gurudongmar Lake, Yumthang Valley, Tsomgo Lake, and Baba Mandir. It is the most complete North Sikkim itinerary in one week-long trip.
Which places are covered in this package?
The tour covers Gangtok (MG Marg, Rumtek Monastery, Enchey Monastery, Bakthang Waterfall, Tashi viewpoint, Ganesh Tok, Hanuman Tok), Lachen with Gurudongmar Lake, Thangu Valley & Chopta Valley, Lachung with Yumthang Valley & Hot Springs, Seven Sisters Falls, Naga Falls, Tsomgo Lake, and Baba Mandir. Zero Point and Nathula Pass are optional add-ons.
What is included in the MAP plan?
The MAP plan (Modified American Plan) includes daily breakfast and dinner for all 6 nights – at Gangtok hotels and North Sikkim homestays at Lachen and Lachung. Lunch is not included. Note that North Sikkim homestays serve simple, locally cooked meals due to their remote high-altitude locations.
Why is North Sikkim travel done in local/shared vehicles?
North Sikkim's high-altitude mountain roads are restricted to local vehicle associations for safety and regulatory reasons. Travel from Gangtok to Lachen/Lachung and lake excursions is conducted in vehicles operated by the North Sikkim vehicle association, which may be shared with other travelers. This is included as per the standard association system.
What is the best time to visit Gurudongmar Lake and Yumthang Valley?
March to June is ideal – Yumthang Valley blooms with alpine flowers and rhododendrons, and the weather is pleasant. October to December offers clear skies and snow views. Winter (January–February) brings heavy snowfall; Gurudongmar and Zero Point may be inaccessible during extreme weather or road blockages.
Is Gurudongmar Lake safe to visit at 17,800 ft?
Gurudongmar Lake is one of the highest lakes in the world, and visitors should take precautions: spend limited time at the lake (15–20 minutes), avoid running or exertion, stay hydrated, and consult a doctor beforehand if you have heart, lung, or blood pressure conditions. Children under 5 and elderly travelers should exercise caution. Oxygen cylinders are recommended and available on hire.
Can foreigners visit Gurudongmar Lake and Nathula Pass?
No. As per current regulations, foreign nationals are not permitted visit Gurudongmar Lake, Nathula Pass, and Zero Point. Foreigners can visit Lachen, Lachung, and Yumthang Valley with a Restricted Area Permit (RAP) arranged through registered tour operators in advance, along with a valid passport and Indian visa.
What documents are required for the North Sikkim permit?
Indian nationals need a valid government ID proof (Aadhaar Card/Voter ID/Passport – driving license is not accepted) and 2–4 passport-size photographs. For children, birth certificate or school ID is required. Permits must be arranged at least 3–4 days in advance through a registered tour operator; carry original IDs throughout the journey.
Is this budget tour package suitable for 4 people?
Yes, this package is priced per person for a group of 4 pax traveling together – great value for families, two couples, or friend groups, with exclusive private cab for Gangtok transfers and sightseeing, and standard local/shared vehicle arrangements for North Sikkim as per government regulations.
What should we pack for this Sikkim high-altitude tour?
Carry heavy woolens and thermal inners (even in summer North Sikkim), windproof jackets, gloves, caps, sunglasses, sunscreen (SPF 50), lip balm, sturdy walking shoes, personal medications, torch, power banks, and original ID proofs. Mobile networks work in Gangtok but are patchy or unavailable at Lachen, Lachung, and high-altitude areas. ATMs are scarce in North Sikkim – carry sufficient cash.
Are there entry fees for the sightseeing spots?
Nominal entry/eco-development fees apply at Tsomgo Lake, Yumthang Valley, Seven Sisters Falls, and Zero Point – ranging from ₹20 to ₹50 per person, payable directly. Nathula Pass requires a separate permit fee of approximately ₹5,000 per vehicle, subject to availability.
Can the itinerary be customized?
Yes, the tour can be customized with extensions to Pelling (Kanchenjunga views, Pemayangtse Monastery), Namchi (Char Dham, Samdruptse), Ravangla (Buddha Park), Darjeeling, or an extra night at Lachung for Zero Point.
